Mojitos are my favorite cocktail! They are not sickly sweet, like some cocktails, and the lime and mint in mojitos give them a zesty and fresh taste. A dark rum mojito recipe is also delicious; however, my favorite is a Mojito Bacardi Recipe.

I always order a holiday mojito when I travel, and through my travels in over 50 countries, I have discovered the best recipes for mojitos. Along with personal preferences, I have come up with the best Mojito Bacardi Recipe ever! 

I hope you will agree after you try it. Still, if you don’t, no worries, as this Mojito Bacardi Recipe offers plenty of variations, including for those who prefer a dark rum mojito recipe and those who would rather a more healthy mojito recipe.

I am always the person carrying a huge bag of groceries and arriving at a party, ready to serve a batch of cocktails. I often find an entourage drifting towards me when I am making them. 

Let me tell you, if you make cocktails at a party, you will be the life of the party and find everyone wants to be your friend.

Even if you are an introvert and don’t care to be the life of the party, it is a fun event! 

“Ooh, what is she up to?” They all want to know.
“I am going to make cocktails,” I declare.
So I take out my alcohol, mixers, and fresh ingredients and lay them on the table. The cocktail making becomes a part of the event.

If I want to make rum cocktails such as frozen strawberry daiquiris, I often call the party host to find out if there is an industrial blender at the house, or I bring my own along or choose a different cocktail. Sparkling mojitos don’t require a blender or lots of ice (like frozen daiquiris do), so I often choose to make them.

Mojito Time is an interactive party event. Often a bunch of people join me in cutting up limes or other tasks. Regardless, there is a circle watching the cocktail-making ceremony. And there are always onlookers further away watching eagerly, hoping to get a glass of the juicy goodness and for Mojito Time to start!

A sparkling mojito is a refreshing and popular summer drink. However, you can enjoy it whether it’s summer or winter, whether at a party or at home. Read on, and I will share my favorite mojito recipe. It is the one I consider to be the best Mojito Bacardi Recipe Ever.

Further, I will let you know why it’s the best Mojito Recipe ever, and I will let you in on the one secret ingredient I always use for my mojitos!

How do you make a mojito drink?

A mojito is an easy cocktail to make because it only requires five ingredients, and you don’t need a blender. However, a mortar and pestle are helpful, but you can get by with just a bowl and spoon.

This alcoholic drink originating from Cuba over 500 years ago has been popular in Britain for hundreds of years. It consists of just five main ingredients: rum, sugar, lime juice, soda water, and mint. 

A traditional Cuban mojito recipe includes Cuban rum, though the type of sugar used varies. 

Because of the health benefits of vitamin C in the lime and the antioxidant and digestion benefits of mint, this rum cocktail is one of the more healthy rum drinks. However, the variations you can make to the classic mojito recipe include ways to make a more healthy mojito recipe.

Variations of the Cuban mojito recipe, including a dark rum mojito

There are many variations of the traditional Cuban mojito recipe. So if you do not have easy access to some of the traditional ingredients, you can use an alternative ingredient. 

You can use sugar syrup, white sugar, raw sugar, cane sugar, brown sugar, demerara sugar, or icing sugar. Fresh lime is traditional. However, if lime is hard to come by, lemon is fine.

Light rum is used in traditional mojitos. I love light rum, but you can use dark rum if you prefer the taste. I have been to one bar that combines both rums, and the drink was delicious. Recently I have tried making mojitos with Appleton Estate Rum and found it makes a tasty dark rum mojito.

If you do not like rum or have any available, you can even make your mojito with gin or tequila. However, I have only made the gin version and made the mojito with tonic water instead of soda water. You will find many variations online if you love a dark rum mojito recipe or prefer to use different alcohol.

Finally, you can add fresh fruit or puree (though fresh is better) for flavored mojitos. It adds a great taste sensation, and if you also use sweet fruit as a substitute for the sugar, it makes it a more healthy mojito recipe. 

I love the black currant mojito, mango mojito, kiwi mojito, raspberry mojito and especially a passionfruit mojito. However, common variations include strawberries, blueberries, and oranges. I have also heard of coconut or honey and ginger flavors, which makes it more of a healthy mojito recipe.

You could even make a more healthy mojito recipe by using less rum and more lime. 

Alternatively, you can make a Mojito Royale which uses the same recipe as a Cuban mojito recipe but tops the rum cocktail with champagne instead of soda water.

By the way, if you don’t drink, there is a Mocktail Mojito Recipe or a “Virgin Mojito.” The Mocktail Mojito recipe contains the same ingredients but without the rum. My favorite is adding strawberries and making a healthy strawberry virgin mojito.

The secret ingredient for mojitos

Fresh mint is the one ingredient that makes a mojito a mojito, whether you use a dark rum mojito recipe or a Bacardi mojito recipe. However, one secret ingredient for my mojitos makes them extra yummy!

The secret ingredient for my Mojito Bacardi recipe is Angostura bitters. 

This concentrated bitter made of herbs and spices is used for flavoring. In mojitos, Angostura bitters cuts the sweetness and adds an extra element.

I was given the recipe in an island bar in Thailand by a well-traveled bar owner who had traveled to Cuba and had an extra special Cuban mojito recipe he had learned in Cuba. He said it was the secret ingredient for an extra delicious mojito and not to tell anyone on the island. He believed he was the only bartender on the island that used it. 

You may find it online or in bottle shops. Though, don’t worry if you can’t find it or think it’s too expensive; this light rum mojito recipe is perfect either way. Just keep it in mind if you get addicted to this fabulous drink.

Why is this the Best Mojito Bacardi Recipe ever?

To start with, some people use sugar syrup. I find it can make the cocktail too sweet, so I use raw sugar. If I have the option, I prefer raw cane sugar as it adds an extra tasty element due to the molasses. Otherwise, raw sugar (which also has molasses) is richer in flavor than white sugar. Though if you only have white sugar, don’t let that stop you from making this delicious rum cocktail.

Additionally, the mint has to be fresh. I bought two plants and am experimenting with different types of mint, but spearmint or Mojito mint are the most common ones used.

My recipe uses more lime than most, so it has an extra zing.

Finally, adding Angostura bitters brings the cocktail to the next level.

To confirm, you can add more or less of the sugar, lime, soda, and rum, based on your preferences. Hopefully, this story gives you the knowledge and inspiration to make your own best mojito recipe ever.

The Best Mojito Bacardi Recipe Ever

Ingredients

  • 45 ml white rum
  • 30 ml freshly squeezed lime juice
  • Half a lime cut into 3 lime wedges for garnish
  • 10 mint leaves, plus 2 mint sprigs for garnish
  • Two teaspoons of raw sugar
  • 120 ml sparkling soda water
  • 3 drops of Angostura bitters
  • Crushed ice

Method

  1. Place the mint leaves into the mortar or bowl.
  2. Add the fresh lime juice and sugar on top of the mint leaves.
  3. Gently press and twist the mint with a pestle or wooden spoon. (Bartenders use a muddler) Do not shred the mint. You just want to lightly crush it to release the mint’s flavor and mix the ingredients.
  4. Add rum and stir lightly to dissolve the sugar.
  5. Add some crushed ice into a tall glass.
  6. Pour the ingredients into the glass.
  7. Top the drink with sparkling soda water and Angostura bitters and lightly stir.
  8. Garnish with some more crushed ice, mint sprigs, and lime wedges.
  9. Serve with a steel reusable straw and/or a decorative cocktail stirrer.
