Norwegian Cruise Line has officially taken delivery of Norwegian Aqua, the first ship in its new Prima Plus class. Built by Fincantieri at their Marghera shipyard, Aqua is about 10 percent larger than the Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva, coming in at 156,300 gross tons and stretching 1,056 feet. At double occupancy, the ship can accommodate approximately 3,571 passengers.
One of the biggest highlights is the Aqua Slidecoaster, the first-ever hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide at sea. NCL is also introducing the Glow Court, an interactive LED sports complex, and Aqua Game Zone, which features virtual reality experiences. The ship has the most expansive Ocean Boulevard yet, a 360-degree outdoor promenade designed for dining, relaxing, and taking in ocean views.
NCL executives, including Harry Sommer and David J. Herrera, were at the delivery ceremony alongside Fincantieri leadership. Up next for the shipyard is Norwegian Luna, Aqua’s sister ship, on track for a spring 2026 debut.
Norwegian Aqua will begin sailing on March 28, 2025, with a repositioning cruise from Southampton to Boston. After that, it will take on Caribbean, Bermuda, Northern Europe, Transatlantic, and Bahamas itineraries. This marks another step in NCL’s push for bigger, bolder ships, and Aqua is set to bring some exciting new experiences to the fleet.
