Malahat Skywalk

The Malahat SkyWalk is a 600-metre gentle 5% circular walkway that slowly leads to a; top viewing deck.

At the top, you’ll experience incredible 360 degree scenic views of; Finlayson Arm, Saanich Peninsula, Mount Baker and the beautiful surrounding Coast Mountains.

Access from the Victoria, BC is 33 kilometers, or about 35 minutes driving time. You can’t access the attraction directly off the highway, heading south.

If you are traveling from the north, at this time you will have to drive past the main entrance, to a marked U-Turn point, located at the popular Malahat Chalet.

Hopefully this will be upgraded in the future, as you have to drive 4 kilometers to the U-Turn. So I would recommend planning your visit on your way up the island, instead of returning,

The Malahat Skywalk Adventure

Your adventure begins once you enter inside the main gate. Travel along a short trail which leads you to the entrance to the scenic walkway, which takes you to the; Skywalk structure.

There’s a small booth located at the entrance to the walkway, where an attendant will, take your ticket to enter.

This elevated short walkway to the Skywalk, gives you an opportunity to take in the natural surroundings and beauty of nature surrounding you.
There’s a few informative signs along the way to check out, including the mysterious; Sasquatch!

The entire facility is suitable for everyone, including wheelchair accessibility and strollers.

Pets are not permitted inside the gates to the Skywalk at this time.

As you make your way along the elevated trail, the towering {Skywalk} suddenly appears in the; forest.

It is a colossal structure, reaching ten stories in height! It’s a truly unique looking tower, situated 250 meters (820 ft) above sea level.

As you leisurely make your way up the outer platform to the top, the views as you round the; spiral climb, are incredible!

Saanich Inlet Vancouver Island

From the height of the structure, your breath will be taken away by the spectacular view all around as you make your way to the top.

At the top, there’s a huge viewing platform to sit, relax and take in the incredible view, from high above.
There’s even a rope platform you can cross – if you dare!

A few levels down, there’s even a cool; 20 meter/65 foot spiral slide, you can try for fun. You can have an exciting slide back to down to the bottom of the Skywalk!

My wife and I both took the slide down to the bottom and it was great fun!

 

Interpretive Nature Trail

During the peak season months of summer, at the bottom of the Skywalk is a snack bar, playground and seating area to enjoy.

After you’re done, you can choose to take the Interpretive Nature Trail back to the main entrance.

There’s a gift shop and cafe to browse through and grab a coffee and sandwich.

It was a beautiful sunny day in late September on our visit to the Skywalk. We couldn’t have asked for a better day!

At the top, it was a little windy but still warm and comfortable. The surrounding view was simply amazing!

I would certainly recommend checking this attraction out, during your visit to Vancouver Island. It’s a great way to spend a few hours and enjoy the outdoors, along with spectacular scenery, thrown in!
