Empowered to Play Outside: Women’s Month Adventure in Cebu
Celebrating Women’s Month with Adventures in Cebu
Adventurous women from across the nation converged in the picturesque town of Catmon, Cebu, for an exhilarating summit-to-sea adventure, celebrating the spirit of Women’s Month. The All Women’s Climb, an inspiring annual initiative of the Mountaineering Federation of the Philippines—which serves as an umbrella organization for diverse mountaineering groups nationwide—brought together these intrepid explorers this year under the banner of the Cebu Outdoor Adventure Team. Teva generously lent its support, adding an extra layer of enthusiasm and camaraderie to this remarkable event.

A total of 61 enthusiastic participants hailing from the diverse regions of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao came together for an exhilarating adventure, with a notable number representing the vibrant island of Cebu. The three-day event kicked off with an engaging welcome program held at the Catmon municipal hall, a focal point of camaraderie and excitement. Here, participants registered their presence, received thorough briefings about the upcoming challenges, and underwent comprehensive health checks, ensuring they were fully prepared and fit for the exhilarating journey that lay ahead.
By lunchtime, the women were transported by truck along a dusty road, finally reaching the jump-off point, a rugged trailhead nestled an hour away from the bustling town center. The trek to the campsite unfolded over a span of two to three hours, leading them through vibrant patches of farmland. The path began with a gentle ascent, the air fresh with the scent of earth and greenery, before becoming steeper and more challenging as they climbed higher.
As dusk settled in, casting a warm golden glow over the landscape, the participants arrived at their campsite—an idyllic open clearing that offered breathtaking panoramic views of northern Cebu. Stretching out before them were the shimmering sea and the dramatic silhouettes of surrounding mountains, their peaks kissed by the fading light. After pitching their colorful tents and preparing a hearty dinner, the women gathered together, united by the spirit of adventure, to share stories as the stars began to twinkle above. A delightful highlight of the evening was a spirited raffle, featuring the coveted Teva sandals.

Teva has long been a beacon for adventurers around the globe, inspiring people to explore the great outdoors since it introduced the world’s first sport sandal. These sandals, perfectly suited for the women climbers’ remarkable journey from summit to sea, offered the essential support and comfort they needed to tackle their adventure with confidence.
Winners were awarded the Hurricane XLT2, a contemporary interpretation of Teva’s iconic sport sandal. Crafted with durable, eco-friendly recycled straps and an ergonomic midsole, this sandal delivers exceptional stability and comfort for all types of outdoor adventures. Lightweight yet incredibly sturdy, it provides outstanding grip on uneven terrain, making it an ideal choice for both rugged trails and vibrant urban exploration.
The following day, the group of women embarked on a captivating hike to Torre Peak, the majestic summit of Mt. Kapayas. The journey commenced with a 20-minute trek to reach the final jump-off point, gradually intensifying into a steep 45-minute climb through muddy, lush forested trails, where the rich green canopy filtered sunlight into enchanting patterns on the ground. Before tackling the final push, climbers participated in a comprehensive safety briefing, equipping them for the most technical section of the trail—an exhilarating 15-minute scramble over jagged coral rocks, where each step demanded focus and caution.
Towering at 780 meters above sea level, Torre Peak is the second-highest summit in Cebu and a designated Key Biodiversity Area, playing a crucial role in the conservation of various endemic species. Its historical significance is profound; during the Philippine-American War in 1899, Mount Kapayas served as a strategic stronghold, making it a site of resilience and resistance in the fight for freedom.
After their exhilarating descent from the summit, participants made their way to the enchanting J&L Huyohoy Beach Resort. There, they were greeted with warm smiles and the tantalizing aroma of Catmon’s renowned lechon, a feast that was well-deserved after their arduous journey. As the sun set, the mellow rhythms of live reggae music enveloped the atmosphere, inviting everyone to unwind and revel in the joyous spirit of the evening.
On the final day of this unforgettable experience, the adventure continued with exhilarating stand-up paddleboarding lessons offered free of charge. This thrilling activity was a perfect culmination of a memorable Women’s Month celebration, filled with challenges, adventures, and an empowering sense of sisterhood.
