One of the best Caribbean family travel destinations, Barbados offers a vibrant food scene alongside its famous beautiful beaches and wide array of island adventures. In this post, I will be sharing where to find the best restaurants in Barbados with kids.
Best Restaurants in Barbados with Kids
Renowned as the culinary capital of the Caribbean, Bajan cuisine is influenced by African, Indian, British and Caribbean traditions. Famous local specialities include flying fish, macaroni pie and cou-cou, a combination of fried flying fish and cornmeal pudding, which is the national dish.
Completely surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, Barbados is the easternmost island of the Caribbean and has prime access to fresh seafood. The iconic flying fish is the national fish of Barbados and is often served fried or grilled. Mahi-mahi (called “dolphin” by locals), marlin, kingfish, tuna and barracuda are also popular catches that you will find on the menus in most restaurants in Barbados.
During our family holiday in Barbados, we truly enjoyed the variety of beachfront bars and restaurants serving great food around the island. I am sharing restaurants on the west, south and east coast of the island. Scroll down for a “Barbados with Kids” Google map to see each location.
Reservations are a must at most restaurants, and it is quick and easy to book or change your dining reservations online. Read on for our top picks for the best Barbados restaurants with kids.

The Tides specialises in fresh seafood, both locally and imported, such as Caribbean grilled lobster and catch of the day served with spiced sweetcorn chowder and roasted Caribbean vegetables. The restaurant offers á la carte menus as well 2 course or 3 course prix fixe lunch and dinner menus.

Oistins Fish Fry
Oistins Bay Garden, Oistins, Christ Church, Barbados
Lastly, the Oistins Fish Fry is not a restaurant but a unique street food experience that happens at Oistins, a fishing village on the south coast of Barbados. Every Friday, the Oistins Fish Fry street festival sees around 80 food stalls serving up grilled or fried fish, jerk chicken and various local side dishes such as macaroni pie.
Having dinner at the waterfront Oistins Fish Fry is a must when visiting Barbados with kids! It’s a great way to have a taste of the island’s local cuisine and fresh seafood specialties. Do make sure to arrive as early as possible, around 5pm, since the Oistins Fish Fry gets very busy with locals and visitors through the evening and takes on a party atmosphere into the night.
The most popular fish dishes to order at Oistins Fish Fry are flying fish, marlin, Mahi-Mahi (or “dolphin” as it is called by locals) and swordfish. We ordered our dinner at the Chillin & Grillin stall. Long folding tables are set up in front of each stall and it can take up to an hour to be served during busy evenings.
