I’ve been visiting 30a ever since my college days (which were far too many moons ago at this point, thank you very much). We took a family trip to Watersound this month, and it was Alex’s first time to visit. Being the Aussie he is, Alex has been very confused as to why it’s referred to as a highway turnoff. To me, it’s normal. To him, it’s blasphemy. I love experiencing travel through other people’s eyes, and after five days here, he finally understood this stretch of coastline. Much more than an off ramp, it’s a gorgeous area that offers pastel sunsets, insanely good food, ample family activities and of course, the most pristine beaches for this Sydney beach boy. Looks like we’ll be back next year!

Where to stay

We love renting Vrbos around the area so we can stay as one big happy family. If you’re looking for a hotel, The Pearl in Rosemary is one of our favorites! It’s right in front of the beach but if you feel like staying put, the pool and bar area is elite!

Here’s a short guide to the highlights of my favorite areas in Water Sound, Santa Rosa, Seaside, Alys Beach, and Rosemary Beach.

Rosemary Beach

Luminary Boutique
I never miss a chance to walk in here when I’m in the area. This month, I got a couple of dresses and two pairs of shoes here, and all for a great price!

Ex Voto Boutique
Clothes, jewelry and gifts, oh my! Ex Voto Boutique provides a sophisticated shopping experience, especially when their local Color Analysis Expert is in the store. I sat down with Gabby who held up every color of the rainbow to me, analyzing which ones worked best with my skin tones. Then, she pulled a few pieces in the store that worked within that color palette, and it was the most fascinating and fun shopping experience ever!

Gallion’s
Gallion’s is known for its hearty meals and friendly service. Beware and reserve early as it’s hard to get a table during peak season!

Pescada Restaurant
For an upscale dining experience, Pescada serves up fresh seafood and gourmet dishes in a vibey setting. It’s a solid choice for a romantic dinner or special occasion.

Sugar Shack
A sweet spot for candy lovers, Sugar Shack features an array of ice creams and nostalgic treats. It’s very much Nora approved!

La Crema
Gelato, anyone? Yeah, I thought so

Sunday Farmers Market
I’m the biggest sucker for a farmer’s market. Held weekly, this Sunday Farmers Market features local produce, handmade goods, and artisanal treats!

Alys Beach

Charlie’s Donuts
Y’all. Order a dozen maple donuts and don’t look back. Seriously. My mouth is watering right now just thinking about this goodness. Start your day with a visit to Charlie’s Donuts.

Alys Beach Playground
My nephews had so much fun playing here with Nora. It isn’t huge by any means, but it’s a perfect place to burn off some steam after brunch at Fonville Press.

Fonville Press
I think I’ve found the prettiest coffee shop in all of the land. It’s certainly eye-catching with its pink umbrellas and shiny facade, but what’s even better are their drink and dining options. Order a frozé, homemade poptarts and for the love of God don’t forget the bacon/egg/cheese biscuit.

The Citizen Restaurant
My girlfriends and I went here a couple of years ago for dinner, and it didn’t disappoint. Offering a sophisticated experience, The Citizen Restaurant features a menu of refined Southern cuisine and incredible cocktails.

Raw & Juicy
For health-conscious diners, this is your spot for organic juices, smoothies, and light cuisine.

Seaside

The Red Bar
What’s a visit to Seaside without stepping foot in The Red Door? An iconic spot in Seaside, Red Bar is famous for its lively atmosphere, eclectic decor, and food. It’s an experience that you have to witness.

Wild Bill’s Hot Dog Airstream
This was hands down the best hot dog I’ve had in as long as I can remember. Wild Bill’s serves up gourmet hot dogs with a variety of toppings. It’s a fun, retro spot for a family meal on the go.

Sundog Bookstore
Somewhere floating around my closet, there’s a Sundog Bookstore tee from around 2008. I’ve loved this bookstore for a long time, and it has all of those cozy bookstore vibes you want and so much more.

Duckies
I mean… just look at the photo below and tell me this isn’t inviting! Duckies offers a unique selection of gifts, apparel, and home decor. We were in here for too many minutes and spend too many dollars.

Cafe Thirty-A
A local favorite, Cafe Thirty-A is known for its upscale yet approachable dining experience. Put it on your list of restaurants for you next visit.

Santa Rosa

Deer Lake State Park
We love it here! Deer Lake State Park features scenic trails, rare coastal dune lakes, and truly the most amazing beach. It’s a great destination for hiking, bird-watching, and entertaining the kid’s at the beach. Note that there’s an honor box upon arrival where you should add $3 per vehicle.

Old Florida Fish House
What a spot. We took the family here for dinner one night, but it’s so much more than its seafood. It has shops, live music, games, and a dock overlooking the water. It speaks to families, guy’s trips, bachelorette parties, etc. There’s something for everyone here. Good vibes only!

Water Sound

The Big Chill
A family hangout with various food stands doling out tacos, burgers, seafood & BBQ, plus drinks. Every Friday night in the summer, there’s a dance party with DJ, live music, face painting and so much more. I think Nora would’ve outlasted us all if we didn’t have to drag her away for bedtime! There are so many shops that I love in this area like Palms, Adaro Art, Posh Polished, the General Store and beyond.

Bruno’s Pizza
A favorite among locals and visitors, Bruno’s Pizza has amazing pizza. I love their food, outdoor seating and laidback atmosphere.
